Title
October 6, 1968: UMD protests connect to local and national movements
Description
UMD student activists did not operate in a vacuum. The BSU sponsored an on-campus talk by QT Jackson, the head of Howard University's Student Association.
Howard University students took over their administration building in the spring of 1968, resulting in a campus shut down from March 19th to March 23rd. Jackson (pictured right) was invited to a BSU meeting at Maryland on October 6, 1968.
Black students at UMD and nearby Bowie State and Howard University were part of a much larger Black student movement across the United States.
